Day 1 – First Day in Japan

– April 13th 2023 –

Let’s start this new day! I woke up at 9am, exhausted from jet lag, but I had to fight it, to be ok for the next few weeks. Magic with the jetlag is that I woke up at 2am hungry as fuck. Anyhow, I started my day by checking what will be the plan for the day. The hostel was next to Senso-ji, a Buddhist temple, in Asakusa, so I went in that direction (15 min by walk).

Tokyo Street

However, I needed to make some changes in JPY, I did not have time to do it before leaving the airport the day before. So I found the change desk in Asakusa, in the tourist center there. I recommend that you stop by the tourist center. They give really nice information about anything.

They have a rooftop view where you can see the Senso-ji and the SkyTree

(not good enough if you plan to shoot with a tripod but great view to observe the city).

Just before the Senso-ji on my way, there was the Kaminarimon Gate and Nakamise-dori Street. That is a really nice place where you have a souvenir shop and some food. At the end of the street you have the Senso-ji temple, which is impressive.

Senso-ji

If you go there you have to try the Omikuji Paper Fortune, it is 100 JPY, and you shake a metal box that will give you a number. This number is where you have to pick the paper fortune. If you pick a good fortune, you have to keep the paper, if not you have to attach it on a sort of “hanger”. Once my paper fortune hangs, I went to look for a restaurant, it was not that easy to find.

I finally found a small Korean Restaurant (dining-sai.com), it was really nice and tasted amazing. A Korean cabbage soup with pork and full garlic (yeah, my stomach died haha) with an incredible salad with shrimps and a side with pork and onion.

Then, I went to the park next to the river in the same area up to the Matschiyama Syouden Temple. It was a nice after lunch walk with an appreciable view on the Skytree.

It was only the beginning of the afternoon, then I decided to go to the National Museum. I walked again from where I was to the museum, the goal was to see the Great Wave off Kanagawa but unfortunately I could not because it was not there to see. A bit of deception however it is still nice to visit. The building is gorgeous.

Museum Tokyo

From the museum, I went back to the hotel. At night, I check the plan to go to see Mount Fuji Kawaguchiko, by train with the information given by the tourist center in Asakusa. Then I went to pick up the JR ticket for the next day, and found a restaurant for the night. I picked up a ramen place near the restaurant. Now go to bed with a fricking *** snoring like a truck below my bed. The joy of hostel and bunk bed.
