Day 2 – I visit the Mount Fuji

– April 14th 2023 –

Today is Fuji day! I woke up early to leave the hostel at 7:30am to go to Shinjuku Station to take the JR train to Otsuki. It was already quite warm, which I really enjoyed. On my way to Shinjuku, I took the wrong train, so I had to change a stop later to not miss my train.

Something good to know at Shinjuku, you cannot take the ticket from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko (view on Mount Fuji). I had to take them to Otsuki. It was 2350 JPY for the return. With the JR Pass, you have to count 2h30 to go there.

The train is kind of old and slow, nevertheless the view is spectacular, you can see the mountain and sometimes the Fuji. You also have to know that it is a really touristic area, it was packed.

Lake Kawaguchi, the view on the Fuji Mount

Once I arrived at Kawaguchiko, I went to the direction of Lake Kawaguchi, a 10-min walk from the train station. I spotted a nice coffee place, so I stopped there. I drank tea and ate a fluffy cake (Haostay coffee), never tried before, and I really like it, it was with a bit of caramel. It is really soft.

After finishing this amazing cake, I went for a long walk on the side of the lake for 2 hours. On my way, I saw Mount Fuji. I was lucky enough to have the typical picture with the cherry blossom, yeah! That is why I came here so quite happy.

I went to a different point of view, but it was quite windy and cloudy, so I decided to come back to the city center to eat some tempura. Tempura 6/10 this one, except the egg which was incredible. I could kill for it.

And it was served with soba, which I did not eat correctly and not one told me haha. I will come back to the story later. In my note, I wrote, but the pasta was cold. Keep that in mind for later.

Back to the hotel with the same way local train until Otsuki, then Shinjuku and the hostel. I passed by 7-Eleven to buy dinner : Rice with fried chicken, Onigiri tuna mayonnaise, don’t judge me it was amazing, and some strawberry mochi (I do believe that I am not a big fan of mochi). When I went back to the room, they were people speaking in French, so I had a nice chat for an hour with them. They were really nice, and it made me good to speak a bit with people, haha.
